I realised that sinec installing it - I cannot use the "open in conversation" feature properly. Most of the times it directs me to different messages. Once I disabled the addon, the feature now works. Please try to fix as your addon is VERY useful.

I love your addon! Using it every day... Did you notice that TB will need a (partial) compatibility with webextension soon? (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Add-ons_Guide_57). Will your addon be compatible? Thanks!

I got this extension to do regex searches. Which it does... except for stuff like fr:!workdomain.com
I've tried multiple gyrations, and I can NOT get it to display everything that *didn't* come from *.workdomain.com (eg all outside emails). This is annoying.
It apparently uses the javascript regex engine, which doesn't have any documented "not" searches, except for x(!?y), which doesn't work for this (I tried it).
So the regex implementation is inadequate.

As others have stated, this extension should be an integral part of Thunderbird. In my case, the Thunderbird built-in searches were slow and less than successful, and lacked the capability of more complicated searches.
I have been using it for a number of months and have not run into any issues.
For those people who indicated that "it doesn't work" or something similar, remember to toggle on View->Toolbars->Quick Filter Bar, otherwise you will not see the correct filter field in which to enter Expression Search (ES) functions and parameters.
Also, for those people who decry the lack of a global search or ability to search subfolders, all you need to do is create a Saved Search folder and run ES on that folder. You can modify the folder on-the-fly by right-clicking it and choosing "Properties."

I don't understand why so many people prefer web mail interfaces these days. I feel that a local client like Thunderbird is far more comfortable and flexible to handle, with one exception: The search function in GMail is more convenient to use than the one in Thunderbird. Expression Search / GMailUI brings the same functionality to Thunderbird. For me it works just fine, I couldn't observe any of the bugs that same others have reported in their reviews. However, I did observe one other bug: With this extension installed, the menu bar no longer works. It's still there, but no longer clickable. As all menu bar options are also available from the "hamburger" menu, this is not a disaster. It's still an acceptable trade-off for the added value provided by this extension.

This add-on worked well for a couple of days. Then it stopped working. It has added a second search box which does nothing at all (this is present regardless of the setting of "Hide Normal Filter"). I've tried removing it and reinstalling it, that doesn't fix it. Thunderbird 52.2.1 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6.

this is what always bugged me about thunderbird. the kind of random uncontrollable search engine. this helps tremendously. should be just a build-in feature.

There was no way to update to the newer gmailui-1.0-tb.xpi with the AddOn Updater (always gave a download-error) ! The good news is : after downloading the gmailui-1.0-tb.xpi manually / locally and installing (actually updating) from the saved file, it works in TB45

Its a great tool, the only thing I find sad is that global search over all folders or Sub folders ins not possible. I understand that there might be a reason for this behavour. As a workaround I want to ask the developer to consider this feature: * Add a setting 'remember search term' on/off * When on, don't clear the search term field when the users cycles through the folders
Is this possible? Any other ideas for workarounds? Thanks & Regards

Once you install this extension, you realize how much you missed it before. All the times you half-consciously thought "if only I could use multiple criteria or a regular expression here, I'd find that mail immediately"...
It is a pity that a Global search reverts to the 'old' way of searching, without regex and with very simple boolean logic. But you can't have everything.
EDIT - the developer fixed the issue mentioned below within a few days after I reported it. Well done, excellent support! [There is one little glitch: if you put the Expression Search widget in the ToolBar, it is impossible to hide the Quick Filter Bar. Thunderbird simply doesn't allow it (in the menu: View... Toolbars... Quick Filter Bar). The empty bar keeps taking up space above the list of mails. (TB 31.5.0 on OS X 10.10.2)]
